Design & Colour in Motion
A contemporary art exhibition featuring local Indigenous Artist Graeme Walker
Graeme Walker, a Bundjalung man, born in Casino, is a self taught artist/sign writer who has been painting since the late 1980’s.
His first exhibition was held in 1994 and he has participated in many solo and group exhibitions since then. His art was also published in the Arts Northern Rivers Book Project “A Special Kind of Vision”, highlighting artists of the NSW Northern Rivers.
The artworks are an ecclectic mix blending vivid colours in abstract forms painted onto canvas, calico, paper, clothing and other various materials. The wide range of design styles reflecting geography, local tradtion, and cultural background, are sure to intrigue the viewer as Graeme leads us through a celebration of colours.
Graeme describes his work as different from traditional “Goorie” (Aboriginal) art but still upholding his cultural values and experiences.
“My work has a universal message as well as my own cultural experience, and I hope the viewers relate to the artworks with their own perceptions and stories that relate to their own lives.”
